For enhancing the Malaysian Army’s integral tactical air defence capabilities, MINDEF last September inked a contract with China’s CPMIEC for procuring a Battery of FN-6 shoulder-launched VSHORADS. Deliveries will be completed by the first quarter of next year. The FN-6s, to come equipped with a THALES-built Mode 4 IFF transponder, will supplement the Army’s existing VSHORADS inventories that comprise the THALES Starburst, Anza Mk2 and Igla-1. The CPMIEC-built FN-6 VSHORADS recently scored its first export success in Sudan.
